Mansa, Punjab: Amid the outcry over the murder of Sidhu Moose Wala, the Mansa District Bar Association said on Tuesday that a panel of lawyers would legally assist the singer-politician’s family free of charge.

The Bar Association also introduced a resolution that no attorneys will represent the accused in the case.

On May 29, Moosewala was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Mansa district of Punjab, a day after the state government reduced its security coverage. His cousin and a friend, who were traveling with him in a jeep, were also injured in the attack.

Moosewala was among 424 people whose security was temporarily withdrawn or reduced by the Punjab police.

State police had called the incident a case of gang rivalry and said the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was behind the killing. Goldy Brar, based in Canada and a member of the gang, had claimed responsibility for the murder

Two days after the murder, Punjab police made the first arrest in the case on May 31. Manpreet Singh, who was arrested in Uttarakhand, was accused of providing logistical support to the attackers.

No less than 15 teams were formed by the police to arrest the culprits involved in the murder.
