Rex Burkhead is on the mend.

The Patriots the running back underwent surgery on Tuesday and said he was “on the road to recovery” in a Instagram post from his hospital bed. Burkhead had to be hauled off the field in Houston with a serious knee injury. Even though that was almost two weeks ago, he’s still on the minds of his teammates.

When asked about the Walkers’ Hall on Wednesday afternoon, James White brought the conversation back to Burkhead.

“We’re fine, man. Lots of ups and downs, be it injuries and things of that nature. It sucks not to have Rex here, ”White said on a video conference. “Like I said before, he was having a great year and it sucks to see a guy like that fall. I’m just trying to stay afloat man. Just keep working hard, cheering on each other, making sure we are doing everything we can to protect ourselves, protect our bodies to be the best players we can be. “

Despite being 30 and a free agent at the end of the season, Burkhead is determined to make sure it isn’t a career-ending injury. In a previous Instagram post, the veteran wrote, “(I can’t wait to start the process and come back better than all in 2021”.

Here’s Burkhead’s full post from Thursday morning:
