With the UK Prime Minister’s election less than a month away, Indian-born candidate Rishi Sunak has once again come under the scanner for his lifestyle. According to reports, Sunak is spending nearly Rs 3.8 crore on a luxurious swimming pool inside his mansion. The news comes at a time when several parts of England are struggling with drought and a severe heatwave.
Rishi Sunak has spent 400,000 pounds (about Rs 3.8 crore) on a new swimming pool at his mansion, reports The Independent. Sunak, his wife Akshata Murty and their two children spend their weekends at this North Yorkshire home.
According to the Daily Mail, the former Chancellor of the Exchequer is also building a gym and tennis courts.

Aerial footage of the area shows construction of the pool in full swing. It created an uproar on social media, with many criticizing Sunak for building a swimming pool as the country faces a water shortage. The fact that the city’s public swimming pools have been forced to close due to rising energy costs also adds fuel to the fire.

This is not the first time that Rishi Sunak and his family have found themselves in a controversy over their lifestyle. Last month, Akshata Murty faced public anger when she was seen serving tea from expensive crockery.
A rise in taxes and a spike in the cost of living have been major factors in public discontent with the government led by Boris Johnson. Mr Sunak, then UK Chancellor, had been criticized for the tax hike.
